I'm a writer. Fiction, sci-fi, a little horror. I'm rather tired of the sharp delineations of genre in American culture, and I'm quite alarmed at the way good plotting seems to be going the way of the dodo. I don't see why good storytelling and beautiful writing have to be mutually exclusive. Some of my older fiction and essays are here. For glimpses into my current work visit my blog: The Literary Assassin.
I'm a martial artist. I have studied kung fu and tai chi with Sifu Chun Man Sit, since 2002. I am a horrifically lazy student. You can watch my lame-ass form videos here.
I'm a clothing and costume designer. I've done superheros, Victorian, my own wedding, other stuff. There are pictures of my work throughout this site, but the main sewing page is the best place to look. I also have a shop at Etsy.com.
I sometimes model, because my very talented photographer friend, Amber Dawn Jennings, tells me I'm photogenic. How could I disagree? Amber took many of the pictures on these pages.
I like to cook, and to eat. My mother raised us low-carb before low-carb was cool, and I never embraced the low-fat dogma of the 80's and 90's. That doesn't mean I'm fanatical about not eating a cookie or having mashed potatoes when I want them, but I don't drink soda and I don't eat anything that could be bought from a vending machine. If I want dessert, I make it myself--at least then I know what went into it. Some of my original recipies are here.
I'm thirty-five years old, Aries, ISTP. I live in a liberal corner of Kansas with my woodworking husband and one fat cat. I have a Mac Powerbook and a couple of vintage Bernina sewing machines. I am highly opinionated but slow to argue. I tend to be overly critical with myself and other people. I cook for my friends when they're feeling down. My ears have never been pierced.
